Concha fina e frágil, de forma oval, podendo atingir os 3cm de comprimento mas geralmente menor, com cerca de 15mm. O escudo cefálico cobre parte da concha no seu lado posterior, onde é dividido. É coberto por múltiplas pontuações negras e amarelas, mais densas nas margens e no lado posterior, e alguns agregados de pontos brancos. Os olhos são rodeados por uma área sem pigmento e à sua frente pode ver-se uma área avermelhada que corresponde ao órgão bucal no interior. Parápodes com pigmentação semelhante ao escudo cefálico, mais densa na parte anterior. Vive em fundos móveis pouco profundos, arenosos ou lodosos, incluindo estuários, onde se alimenta de algas verdes. O epíteto específico - orbignyana - é um tributo ao naturalista Francês Alcide d'Orbigny (1802-1857) que continuou o trabalho de Férussac.
This and fragile oval shell reaching 3cm in length but usually smaller, around 15mm long. The cephalic shield covers part of the shell at its posterior end where it is divided. Is covered by numerous black and yellow spots, denser at the edges and posterior end, and also some clusters of white spots. The eyes are surrounded by an unpigmented area on the cephalic shield and between them there's a reddish area which corresponds to the bucal organ inside. Parapodia have pigmentation similar to the cephalic shield but denser at the anterior end. Lives on sandy or muddy shallow bottoms including estuaries, where it feeds on green algae. The specific epithet - orbignyana - is a tribute to French naturalist Alcide d'Orbigny (1802-1857) who continued the work of Férussac.
