Bastante frequente, facilmente observável e identificável, apesar de apresentar algumas variações de coloração que varia de um amarelo pálido a laranja. Apresenta vários tubérculos no manto e pontuações ou linhas brancas, frequentemente com um padrão reticulado. As diferentes colorações levaram à proposta de três subespécies (D. a. areolata, D. a. albolineata e D. a. nigrolineata), sendo a subespécie típica a que se encontra na nossa costa. Atinge dimensões consideráveis, o que facilita a sua detecção.
Frequent and easy to observe and identify although it shows a wide range of variation in colour from pale yellow to bright orange. The mantle has small tubercles and white dots or lines, these often making a reticulated pattern. The different colour variations have led to the proposal of three different subspecies (D. a. areolata, D. a. albolineata and D. a. nigrolineata) being D. a. areolata the one found along the Portuguese coast. Usually fairly large, often over 5cm in length, so it is one of the species most often found by divers.
